Applying
H-2A after 30 and 40: is there an age limit?
The H-2A rules set no maximum age. See what matters in practice for people over 30 or 40, which jobs usually require less effort and how to prepare.

The H-2A visa rules do not set a maximum age. What matters in practice is each job's description: physical effort, hours, weather and the experience asked for. Many employers ask only for a minimum age, usually 18, and the ability to do the work.
Quick answer: there is no maximum age in the program. People over 30 or 40 can apply normally, but should assess whether they can handle the pace of the job and can look for roles with less physical effort, such as operating machinery, handling livestock or supervision.
What really matters
- Physical effort of the job. Manual harvesting demands endurance. Operating machinery or caring for animals usually requires a different kind of preparation.
- Health. The consulate asks for medical exams in the visa process, and you need to be able to meet the workday.
- Experience. Older workers usually have more experience, which is valued in machinery and handling roles.
- Weather and routine. Heat, cold and long days are part of many jobs. See work routine on the H-2A.
