How to protect yourself from scams

A genuine H-2A job has a case number that exists in the DOL system, with the employer's name matching the listing. Employers and recruiters may not charge workers recruitment or certification fees.

COMMON QUESTIONS

About the verification.

Where do I find the job's case number?

In the job order and the job listing. It starts with H-300 for the H-2A (for example, H-300-26260-241449). On H2A Works, it appears on each job. Every legitimate employer provides this number.

What does “Accepted – Pending Recruitment” mean?

The DOL accepted the request for review and the employer is recruiting American workers. Certification has not been issued yet, so dates and conditions may change.

Does “Certified” status mean the job is open?

Not necessarily. Certified means the DOL approved the employer's request. The employer still needs the USCIS petition and to hire workers; the job may already have been filled.

The number does not appear in FLAG. Is it a scam?

It may be a typo, so double-check the number. But if someone offers an H-2A job without a case number, or with a number that does not exist, or charges to secure the job, treat it as a scam.

Where does this data come from?

From the public FLAG (Foreign Labor Application Gateway) lookup, a US Department of Labor system. H2A Works has no affiliation with the American government; always confirm the information on the official site.
