COMMON QUESTIONS

H-2B questions.

What is the H-2B visa?

It is the US visa for temporary or seasonal work outside agriculture. The employer shows the Department of Labor a temporary need and a lack of available US workers, then requests approval from USCIS.

Can foreign workers get an H-2B job?

Yes, as long as an employer hires you and the visa is approved. Since January 2025 there is no eligible-countries list anymore, but confirm the current rules with USCIS.

Do I have to pay to get an H-2B job?

No. Employers and recruiters may not charge workers recruitment fees. Be wary of anyone promising a guaranteed visa or asking for payment to an individual.

How long does an H-2B contract last?

The need must be temporary, generally up to nine months per contract, and total time in H-2B status is limited to three years.

Is there a cap on H-2B visas?

Yes. There is an annual cap of 66,000 H-2B visas, split between the first and second half of the fiscal year, and demand usually exceeds it. The government releases extra visas in some years.

How do I apply for an H-2B job?

Open the job, create a free account to see the contact and send your English resume from your Gmail. Hiring is up to the employer.
