Duties and description

  • The farm work position includes duties  associated with the grading, sorting, packing, and handling of harvested potatoes  produced by the Association's member growers.  Workers will receive and handle harvested potatoes and monitor the product as it moves through grading and sorting operations. Duties will include visually inspecting potatoes for size, quality, damage, defects, disease, dirt, or other conditions that do not meet established quality standards; manually removing defective or unsuitable potatoes; and sorting potatoes according to size, grade, quality, and packing specifications.
  • Workers will operate and monitor potato grading, sorting, weighing, and packing equipment and will make routine adjustments as necessary to maintain the proper flow of agricultural commodities through the operation. Duties may include placing bags, boxes, bins, or other containers and packaging materials onto the packing line; weighing potatoes; verifying package weights and labels; placing graded potatoes into appropriate containers; closing or securing filled containers; and inspecting finished packages for proper weight, condition, and identification.
  • Workers will stack filled bags, boxes, or containers onto pallets or other designated areas and may manually lift and carry containers weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Workers will maintain a continuous flow of potatoes through the grading and packing operation, safely clear minor product blockages when appropriate, and report equipment problems or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Workers will work as part of a team and may rotate among grading, sorting, packing, weighing, palletizing, and other related agricultural duties as production needs require. Workers will maintain clean and orderly work areas, remove discarded potatoes and debris, and clean equipment and work areas as directed. Workers will follow all applicable safety, sanitation, food-handling, and workplace procedures.
  • All work will be performed as agricultural labor for the Association in connection with the handling, grading, sorting, and packing of potatoes produced by the Association's member growers for preparation and sale to market.
  • Farm Shed Sanitation
  • All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm, and shed sanitation duties. The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to insure adherence to instruction.
