The H-2A visa is requested after an American employer selects you and has an approved petition; only then does the worker proceed to the consular process in their country. You don't "get" the visa on your own before having an offer: the process starts with the employer.
Quick answer: certified employer and approved petition → you are given the process details → you fill in the DS-160 → you book the interview at the US consulate or embassy → you receive the decision. Each step follows the rules of the Department of State and USCIS.
Before anything else, the employer must obtain Department of Labor certification and file a petition with USCIS for the H-2A workers. Without that basis, there is no visa. So be wary of anyone offering an "H-2A visa" with no employer and no process.
The H-2A program is available to citizens of countries on an American government list of eligible countries, with possible exceptions in some cases. The list changes. Confirm your country's current status in the USCIS information and with the employer.
With the approved petition information, the worker fills in the online DS-160 form and books the interview, following the Department of State's instructions. Check fees, deadlines and locations only at travel.state.gov. Don't pay intermediaries for a "spot in line" or a "guaranteed date".
Bring the documents indicated in the official instructions, such as a valid passport, the DS-160 confirmation and the petition papers provided by the employer or agent. At the interview, the consular officer may ask about the work, the employer, the contract period and your plans to return to Brazil. Answer truthfully and objectively.
If the visa is approved, follow the travel and entry instructions for the US. Visa issuance does not guarantee entry: the final decision is the border officer's. Confirm with the employer the start date and the transportation terms before buying tickets.
The program's rules provide for the employer to reimburse certain expenses, such as visa fees and inbound transportation, under the conditions and deadlines defined. Ask for the rule in writing in the offer and keep the receipts. Details in rights of the H-2A worker.
It depends on the petition, the consulate's calendar and your documentation. There is no guaranteed deadline. Check the official information and the employer.
Generally it isn't required, but it can help in specific cases. Never pay anyone who promises guaranteed approval.
No. H2A Works helps you find jobs and organize applications. Visa and hiring depend on the employer and the American authorities.
Don't organize the trip before having formal instruction and valid documentation. Visa approval is not guaranteed.
