Duties and description

Original English description
  • SOC 45-2093, 100% of work performed: Employees work in a chicken hatchery production facility where chicken eggs are received, placed on trays, loaded into incubators, transferred from incubators to hatchers, and managed through the hatching process until chicks are ready for customer orders and shipment. They examine feathers and colors of chicks to segregate chicks according to sex, load chicks into the separator, and assist with toe, wing, and beak clipping and vaccinating as part of hatchery operations. Work also includes receiving, loading, and unloading eggs and chicks at the hatchery, farms, and shipping locations; driving vans to farms and shipping locations; filling customer chick orders; and packaging and shipping chicks to customers. Throughout the hatchery and farms, employees assist in maintenance duties involving machinery, fleet, and facility care, dump product waste, and clean and sanitize the facility and equipment so production areas remain ready for continued incubation, hatching, sorting, and outbound shipment activities. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
