Duties and description

Original English description
  • Pre and postharvest work for coffee, banana and citrics.
  • Preparing land for planting (e.g., clearing fields, tilling soil).
  • Planting seeds, seedlings, or trees.
  • Irrigating crops.
  • Applying fertilizers and/or soil amendments.
  • Weeding and brush removal (manual or using hand tools).
  • Operating and maintaining coffee farm equipment and machinery.
  • Performing general farm maintenance (e.g., repairing fences, buildings, and irrigation systems).
  • Constructing and maintaining trellises or other support structures.
  • Loading and unloading agricultural products and supplies.
  • Clearing debris from fields.
  • Assisting with soil management and conservation practices.
  • Implementing pest control and management practices.
  • Pruning coffee plants.
  • Managing shade trees.
  • Identifying and removing diseased plants or branches.
  • Harvesting ripe coffee cherries by hand.
  • Sorting coffee cherries.
  • Transporting harvested coffee from the field.
  • Participating in the initial processing of coffee cherries (e.g., pulping, drying, sorting).
  • Assisting and implementing in seed selection and coffee tree nursery activities.

  • Construcción y mantenimiento de espalderas u otras estructuras de soporte.
  • Carga y descarga de productos y suministros agrícolas.
  • Remoción de escombros de los campos.
  • Asistencia en el manejo y conservación del suelo.
  • Implementación de prácticas de control y manejo de plagas.
  • Poda de cafetos.
  • Manejo de árboles de sombra.
  • Identificación y remoción de plantas o ramas enfermas.
  • Cosecha manual de cerezas de café maduras.
  • Clasificación de cerezas de café.
  • Transporte del café cosechado desde el campo. Participación en el procesamiento inicial de las cerezas de café (p. ej., despulpado, secado, clasificación).
  • Asistencia e implementación en la selección de semillas y actividades de vivero de cafetos.
